REGIONAL DAY 2: Badgers stay alive

The Badgers will play tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. against Illinois. If Wisconsin wins it will have to beat Illinois again to qualify for the World Series. All games will be at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, MI.

DI 7, PURDUE 5 (Game 3 of the weekend)

In an elimination game, the Badgers trailed by three runs in the sixth inning before taking the 5-4 lead on a Jake Cavaiani 2-run single.

Wisconsin scored two more runs in the seventh inning to earn the victory over the Boilermakers.

Nick Newburg started on the mound and earned the victory after pitching six innings. Evan Polce and Austin Mullins finished the game in relief. Mullins earned the six-out save.

ILLINOIS 10, DI 4 (Game 2 of the weekend)

The Illini capitalized on every mistake the Badgers made in the first game on Saturday afternoon.

Bright spots for Wisconsin were Tyler Safgren’s 2-for-2 performance and Hunter Bailey’s four innings of relief allowing no earned runs.

Regional Day 1: DI 11, Purdue 1 (F7)

Sophomore Ed Olson finished the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 2-RBI double off the wall in right-center field against the No. 7 Boilermakers. Olson also had an RBI-single in the fifth inning.

Alex Noel and John Raff were a strong battery keeping Boilermakers off balance all game. Noel induced two double plays and a lot of weak fly balls.

First baseman Nick Newburg went 2-for-3 with a double and freshman designated hitter Tyler Safgren had a single, scored two runs, and three walks.

Sophomore Austin Mullins came in and retired the side in order to finish the game on the mound for the Badgers.

The Badgers will be in action in again in Battle Creek against Illinois at 3:00 p.m. EST. Regionals is a double-elimination tournament. If Wisconsin loses tomorrow, it will play again at 7:00 p.m. EST. If the Badgers win, they will play on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. EST. All games will be played at C.O. Brown Stadium.
